Steam engine expected to cross region Tuesday

Steam locomotive Nickel Plate Road 765 is slated to travel across northwest Ohio on Tuesday to make its way from its home base near Fort Wayne to an excursion railroad in the Cleveland area.

As with previous years’ positioning trips between Fort Wayne and Cleveland, the steam engine will not follow an official schedule. But the historic steam locomotive and its support equipment are expected to leave New Haven, Ind., after sunrise and travel through Payne, Continental, Leipsic, McComb, Arcadia, Fostoria, and Green Springs, Ohio to reach Bellevue, Ohio by midday.

The train will then continue through Vermilion and Elyria to reach the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in Cleveland late in the day.

Nickel Plate 765 is scheduled to pull excursion trains on the Cuyahoga Valley between Cleveland and Akron each of the next two weekends (https://fortwaynerailroad.org/2017/07/765-to-return-to-cuyahoga-valley-scenic-railroad-for-steam-in-the-valley/).

A similar “ferry trip” back west to the Fort Wayne area is then planned during the following week.
