Escaped inmate captured, faces additional charges

Escaped inmate captured, faces additional charges

A North Toledo man accused of escaping from Lucas County’s Correctional Treatment Facility is now being held in the county jail as he awaits arraignment.

Donald E. Williamson, 32, of the 3200 block of Maple Street, is charged with escape, a fifth-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor offense. Authorities say at about 2 p.m. Saturday, Williamson fled from the Correctional Treatment Facility by running out a door and hopping a fence.

A corrections officer supervisor received minor injuries while attempting to prevent Williamson’s escape, court records show.

The Blade attempted to reach Correctional Treatment Facility Director Bud Hite on Monday, but he was out of the office due to the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday.

After approximately 40 minutes of searching, Toledo police reported that Williamson was in custody. According to court records, he hid in a crawl space of a house in the 600 block of Oakland Street in North Toledo. He is accused of using his body force in an attempt to evade arrest when officers found him.

The Correctional Treatment Facility, located at 2001 E. Central Ave., provides treatment for non-violent felony offenders who are sentenced up to six months. The program focuses primarily on cognitive behavior and addiction issues that lead individuals to become incarcerated.

Williamson was sentenced to serve a 60-day term at the facility, according to court records. He originally entered a no-contest plea in Toledo Municipal Court to theft, a misdemeanor offense amended from a fourth-degree felony charge of receiving stolen property for reportedly taking another person’s truck.

Judge Nicole Khoury suspended a 180-day jail sentence in May and placed William on one year of active probation.

However, in July, Williamson’s case was set for a hearing based on a probation violation and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court in August.

Williamson was arrested on Dec. 4 and Judge Timothy Kuhlman determined Williamson violated terms of his probation.

His sentence was modified by Judge Kuhlman on Dec. 17 to serve a 60-day sentence at the Correctional Treatment Facility. He entered the facility on Dec. 23, according to court records.

Williamson is scheduled to appear Tuesday on the new charges before a Toledo Municipal Court judge.
