Adrian Schools to replace instruments

ADRIAN — Grants from two charitable foundations will help the Adrian Schools replace its aging stock of musical instruments over the next three years, the school district announced Tuesday.

Grants of $30,000 apiece from the Elizabeth Ruthruff Wilson Foundation and the Adrian Schools Educational Foundation will be matched by $30,000 from the district to replace the instruments, some of which are more than 20 years old. Replacement will start this year and continue through 2020 “on a rolling basis,” the district said.

The Wilson grant was formally awarded during an Adrian Board of Education meeting Monday.

“For Adrian Public Schools families, this program means students will have access to better instruments as they continue their music education, which plays a critical role in a well-rounded, 21st-century education,” superintendent of schools Bob Behnke said.
