Queen Nefertiti rules again
Nefertiti, beautiful and mysterious, has always had a hold on Ivan Kende. Now, she’s got a hold on Toledo. 127-by-25-foot painting of the Egyptian queen in front of the sun’s intense yellows and orange-reds, emblazons a wall at one end of UpTown Green, the city’s newest park. Perhaps the largest mural in town, it’s Kende’s creation. “I’ve had this design for more than 20 years. I’ve been doing this theme with Nefertiti and the boat.” The queen and her husband, Akhenaten, ruled Egypt about 3,300 years ago and introduced a new concept: the adoration of one god, the sun.
