Open mic nights are a Toledo hallmark
Like the cyclical moon, poetry’s public presence in Toledo has waxed and waned over the years, said Jonie McIntire, a poet who has been writing in the city for 20 years. Poets have always been writing here, but the presence of literary gatherings — the sense that a real “scene” is thriving — often depends on what coffee shops and bars attract writers and whether or not those venues stay open.
