Wilson reaches quarterfinals of Boys 18 National Open
Ross Wilson, a St. Francis de Sales junior, advanced to the quarterfinals of the USTA Boys 18 National Open yesterday at Laurel Hill Swim & Tennis Club.
Wilson, the sixth seed, defeated Seth Bowman of East Grand Rapids, Mich., 6-0, 6-2.
Wilson will play today against fourth-seeded Andre Iriarte of Rockville, Md.
Wilson and Iriarte played doubles together but lost in the quarterfinals 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 to Tim Ryan of Herndon, Va., and Shaul Yecheskel of Silver Spring, Md.
Earlier, Wilson and Iriarte had won 6-2, 6-2 over Michael Goode of Pickerington, O., and James Tyler of Cincinnati.
Brothers James and Kevin O'Connell of St. Francis lost 6-1, 6-1 to Michael Brown of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Ruben Gonzales of Terre Haute, Ind.
Singles quarterfinals start today at 9:30 a.m. with semifinals at 1 p.m. The championship will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
