Winners of the 86th annual Toledo Area Artists' Exhibition were announced last night at an opening reception in the Toledo Museum of Art.

Jurors originally selected 100 pieces for the show from 724 submitted by local artists, then chose 22 winners in various categories, who shared $8,000 in prizes.

Best of show, with a $1,000 prize, was awarded to Lori Arps Langenhop for her watercolor.

First-place awards went to painters Michael Arrigo and Michael Sheets. Second-place winners were Mary Dawson, Emanuel Enriquez, and Andrew D. Pauken. Third-place honorees were Janet Ballweg, Brian Donahue, John Nativio, and Ronald D. Taylor.

Specialty awards winners were Michael J. Barker, Debra Buchanan, Marcia Derse, Scott Horn, Carol Imes-Luscombe, Elizabeth V. Jordan, Lou Krueger, Ellen Loeffler-Kalinoski, Bitsy Mayhle, Matthew Paskiet, Mary Pencheff, and Diane Shearon.

Jurors were Vince Castagnacci, professor of painting at the University of Michigan, and Tarrence Corbin, associate professor of art at the University of Cincinnati.

The exhibit is organized by the Toledo Museum of Art and the Toledo Federation of Art Societies. The free show, along with 26 selections from the Toyohashi City Museum of Japan, will continue in the museum's Canaday Gallery through July 25.
