20 North puts glass on display

20 North Gallery celebrates glass month with colorful beauties fashioned by a pair of popular artists: Tom McGlauchlin and Jack Schmidt. Opening reception will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The gallery is at 20 North St. Clair Street, across from Fifth Third Field. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Information: 419-241-2400.

Deadline for entries to the 87th annual Toledo Area Artists Exhibition is April 8. The exhibition will be at the Toledo Museum Art from June 10 to July 24. For information contact Jennifer Hanson at 419-244-5771 ext. 7521 or www.toledomuseum.org.

"What do we collect?" a free panel discussion, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Great Gallery of the Toledo Museum of Art. Among the panelists will be Ed Hill and Millard Stone, speaking about their own collections and providing tips about collecting. Information: 419-255-8000.

The Parkwood Gallery is showing the works of Jenn Buddie, Hali Lynn, Danielle Crissman, and Connaught Cullen through April 15. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Glass artist Matthew Paskiet has scheduled his spring open house from 7 to 9 p.m. March 25 in Firenation Glass Studio, 7166 Front St., Holland. The evening will showcase Paskiet's recent work as well as glass-blowing demonstrations. Information: 419-866-6288.

Reservations for the popular Arty Party, at 7 p.m. April 30 in the Libbey Court at the Toledo Museum of Art, will be taken until April 25. The theme is "L'art de la Table" and area designers create centerpieces inspired by works of art from TMA's collection. Tickets range from $80 to $125 and proceeds benefit the museum. A portrait-and-figure show continues through March 27 in the Spectrum Friends of Fine Art Gallery in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. Next up will be the members show, from March 30 to April 24, followed by the spring show from April 27 to May 22. MICHIGAN

The compelling blue and brown photographs of Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov, capturing poignant characters in the decaying post-Soviet era, are on display through May 27 in the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan. The gallery is in 520 Rackham Bldg., 915 East Washington St., Ann Arbor. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Information: 734-936-3518.

The Michigan Fine Arts Competition exhibition features 93 pieces from 86 artists Friday through April 15 in the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Awards will be presented at a ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and it is free and open to the public. This year, 279 Michigan artists submitted approximately 650 slides.
