Wanderings and Wonderings is the topic painter Harold Roe has chosen for his 2 p.m. talk Sunday in the National Center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark. An outdoorsman, Roe has a keen eye for recreating animals, their habitats, and birds in particular, and has traveled through wilderness areas in Canada, Alaska, Africa, and Australia. He is the sole four-time winner in the Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp competition.

Also at the center are three exhibits through October. Howard Burkert's wildlife and landscape images are inspired by his travels throughout North America. Art Weber contributes his autumnal photographs. In addition, images from members of the Naturalists' Camera Club of Toledo and the Toledo Photo Arts Club will be displayed. The nature center is open noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in the park at 10001 West Central Ave., Berkey.

Needlework show

The Needle Arts Guild of Toledo will present its 35th annual needlework show Sept. 17 and 18 in the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library's Sanger branch, 3030 West Central Ave. More than 100 items will be displayed for judging by Karen Wojahn of Green Bay, Wis., a former president of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Walk-in entries will be accepted at the branch between 4 and 8 p.m. Sept. 15. The mission of the Toledo guild, with more than 40 members, is to learn about workmanship, design, and color; to teach others about the embroidery arts, and to preserve our national needle arts heritage. Watercolors

Diane Kidd will bring nearly three dozen of her watercolors to an exhibit at the Diane Kidd Gallery in the Hayes Center for the Arts at Tiffin University. The show, From Here to There, will open with a 7 to 9 p.m. reception Sept. 16, and will continue through Oct. 24. The gallery is named in honor of the painter who was one of its cofounders and is a long-time supporter of art and art education. Information: 419-448-3313 and marsha.pippenger@gmail.com.

Detroit

Forty framed, full-sized digital reproductions of paintings from the Detroit Institute of Arts collection are being placed throughout a four-county area around Detroit as part of that museum's 125th anniversary celebration. Called DIA: Inside/Out, it aims to connect the museum with people outside its walls. Produced on waterproof vinyl and framed, the reproductions will be displayed through November.

Cleveland

The Cleveland Museum of Art has tapped David Franklin, 49, as its eighth director. A native of Quebec, Franklin has been deputy director and chief curator at the National Gallery of Canada. He is an Italian Renaissance and baroque art scholar with strong international connections among dealers, collectors, and museums. Taking the reins Sept. 20, Franklin will oversee the final three years of the museum's $350 million renovation and expansion.

On view at the CMA are Midwest Modern: The Color Woodcuts of Mabel Hewit through Oct. 24; The Jewelry of (Clevelander) John Paul Miller through Jan. 2; Andrew Borowiec: Cleveland Photographs, through Oct. 17, and In Honor of the Cleveland Arts Prize, rotating works, through March 13.
