Gas-cap tests available to motorists this week

Two public agencies will offer gas-cap tests to motorists this week and provide free replacements for those whose caps leak.

The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments and the Toledo Division of Environmental Services will perform the tests today at the Circle K at 103 Anthony Wayne Trail, Waterville, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Wednesday at the True North Shell at 1000 Buck Rd., Rossford, from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Thursday at the Barney's BP, 5821 N. Detroit Ave., Toledo, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Leaking gas caps allow gasoline vapor to escape, adding to air pollution and potentially costing drivers up to a full tank of gas annually. The cap test takes only a few minutes, and replacement caps are offered on the spot.
