Canadian auto union, Chrysler restart talks

DETROIT — Chrysler Group LLC and the Canadian Auto Workers union resumed high-level contract talks Monday after suspending discussions over the weekend as the union’s Ford Motor Co. members voted to ratify a new four-year agreement. Workers at General Motors Co.’s Canadian plants are to vote on a new agreement on Wednesday and Thursday.

CAW President Ken Lewenza said Monday that “Chrysler has said repeatedly their cost structure is much different from GM and Ford, therefore the union has to respond differently on multiple fronts.”

The union historically has agreed to similar deals with all three automakers so none has an advantage in labor costs.
