Used-car superstore firm CarMax Inc., which owns the site of the former Kmart on Central Avenue at Holland-Sylvania Road in Sylvania Township, began improving the site last month by demolishing the closed store and clearing debris from the 11-acre parcel.
But Elia Imler, a spokesman for the nation’s largest used-car retailer, which is based in Richmond, Va., said it has no plans to further develop the site or open a store there in 2013. The company usually buys a property and takes “two to three years” to develop it, she said.
CarMax purchased the land last May and Ms. Imler said it is committed to putting a store there, but when that will occur is impossible to say. Current development plans will be revised after the third quarter and a development list for 2014 may be ready by then, she added.
