DUNDEE, Mich. -- Chrysler Group LLC has cut production of one of the three engines it builds at Dundee Engine Plant, union officials said.
Tom Zimmerman, plant unit chairman for UAW Local 723, said Chrysler eliminated one of the two shifts that built the 1.4-liter engine used in the Dodge Dart and Fiat 500.
Most of the approximately 60 workers who were on the second shift were moved to other jobs in the plant. However, 14 employees who were days away from the end of their 90-day probationary period were fired, Mr. Zimmerman said.
A Chrysler spokesman confirmed the shift elimination and job losses.
The union has filed grievances over those firings.
