GM opens data center in Detroit suburb

WARREN, Mich. — General Motors Co. said a new supercomputer data storage center and efforts to write its own software are paying off.

The company formally opened a giant data center on Monday in this Detroit suburb.

The automaker wants 90 percent of the computer work in-house in the next five years. Outside firms had handled 85 percent of its computer work.

GM said its people developed software to check dealer service records worldwide and spot problems.
