Clawson adds to BG football staff

BOWLING GREEN - New coach Dave Clawson named eight members of his Bowling Green State University football staff this week.

In addition to announcing Shannon Morrison as his co-

defensive coordinator - which was reported last week - Clawson named former Defiance assistant Warren Ruggiero as offensive coordinator and Joe Trainer as assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator. Clawson also hired offensive line coach John McDonnell, special teams coach Sean Spencer and director of football operations Clint Dowdle.

Running backs coach John Hunter and defensive ends coach/recruiting coordinator Doug Phillips were held over from the Gregg Brandon regime.

Ruggiero last coached quarterbacks at Kansas State but was an assistant at Defiance from 1989-93. Trainer was last the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Rhode Island.

Clawson still has two more coaching spots to fill, which he said he would do after Wednesday's national recruit signing day, according to BG's Web site.
