BGSU's Jessica Slagle named MAC East player of week

BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green State University women's basketball senior Jessica Slagle was named Mid-American Conference East Division player of the week, the league announced Monday.

Slagle, a native of Sidney, Ohio, averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead the Falcons to a pair of wins last week as BG clinched at least a share of the MAC's East Division title. She also received this honor from the MAC on Jan. 30.

Slagle led all players with 19 points in Wednesday’s home win over Buffalo, scoring the last four points of the first half, then went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute of the game to clinch the 62-52 win.

At Akron Saturday Slagle led BG and tied for game scoring honors with 15 points in a 60-55 win. She had a game-high four assists, and was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line, including hitting a pair of free throws in the final second to clinch that victory.

On the year, Slagle is averaging 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, leading the Falcons in the latter category. She has set career highs in nearly every statistical category this season. With 311 points, she has nearly equaled her total points from her first three seasons combined (349).
