LAS VEGAS — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team beat the University of Nevada-Las Vegas 64-54 in the consolation game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up on Sunday.

The Falcons claimed the victory thanks to a season-high 12 3-pointers in the contest, including four by Jasmine Matthews and three from Chrissy Steffen.

Matthews finished with a career-high 16 points, while Danielle Havel scored 14 and grabbed eight rebounds. Steffen added 11 points for Bowling Green, which snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-2 on the season.

Alana Cesarz scored 17 points to lead UNLV (2-4), while Kelli Thompson had 13 and Rejane Verin 10.

After falling behind 8-5 early, Bowling Green went on a 15-2 run that was fueled by a trio of 3-pointers, two by Matthews and one by Steffen, to lead 20-10 with 11 minutes, 6 seconds left in the first half.

The Falcons made eight 3-pointers in the first half — Matthews made all four of her 3’s in the period — and led 35-29 at the break.

UNLV scored the first four points of the second half to cut BG’s lead to 35-33, but the Falcons responded with 13 straight points over a five-minute span to build a 48-33 lead with 13:27 to play.

BG will return home for its next three games, beginning with a contest against Temple on Wednesday.
