BGSU's Jones named MAC defensive player of the year

Senior finished with 41 tackles, including 12.5 sacks

BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green State University senior defensive tackle Chris Jones was named Mid-American Conference defensive player of the year, the league announced today.

Jones, a native of Brownsburg, Ind., finished with 41 tackles, including 19 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. The 6-1, 293-pound senior's sack total lead the MAC and was the tied for the third-highest total among FBS players, while his tackles for loss ranked second in the MAC and tied for seventh-best nationally.

Jones was one of 10 Falcons to receive All-MAC honors Tuesday. Joining Jones on the first team was sophomore outside linebacker Gabe Martin and junior defensive back BooBoo Gates.

Second teamers from BG were offensive lineman Jordon Roussos and punter Brian Schmiedebusch, while the third team included offensive lineman Dominic Flewellyn, tight end Alex Bayer, defensive lineman Ted Ouellet, linebacker Dwayne Woods and defensive back Cameron Truss.
