Bowling Green to play San Jose State in Military Bowl

Falcons' game set for Dec. 27 in Washington, D.C

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University football team Sunday accepted a bid to play in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman.

The Falcons will face No. 24 San Jose State in the bowl game, which will be played Thursday, Dec. 27, at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

“We’re thrilled, and we’re honored — we’re really excited to be going to Washington D.C. to play in the Military Bowl,” Bowling Green coach Dave Clawson said. “It’s a great reward for our team, and it’s a great bowl — the other MAC coaches that I’ve talked to have had great experiences there.

“Obviously we’re playing a high-quality opponent in San Jose State, which is 10-2 this year. Coach [Mike] MacIntyre has done a great job rebuilding their program.”

The Spartans have won their last six contests. Their losses are to Stanford by three points in the season opener and to Utah State.

San Jose State has wins over four bowl-eligible teams: San Diego State, BYU, Navy, and Louisiana Tech.

This will mark the first meeting of the two schools.

This will be the Falcons first bowl bid since 2009, when Bowling Green played in the Roady’s Humantarian Bowl (now called the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, which Toledo will play in this year against Utah State), and is the program’s 10th bowl bid all-time.

This will mark the second consecutive season a team from northwest Ohio played in the Military Bowl. Last year Toledo claimed a 42-41 victory over Air Force in the contest.

Bowling Green said it will announce ticket information for the bowl today.
