BOWLING GREEN – Chris Kingston, the executive senior associate director of athletics at North Carolina State, has been named Bowling Green State University’s next athletics director.
The school announced his hiring in a press release today, setting a 4 p.m. press conference Monday to introduce Kingston as the school’s 13th full-time athletics director.
He will replace Greg Christopher, who left to become athletics director at Xavier University.
Kingston most recently has spent the last three years as N.C. State. He originally was hired as the school’s senior associated director of athletics in late August of 2010, then was elevated to his present title within a year.
At North Carolina State he was directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the football and mens’ basketball programs while overseeing external relations, NCAA compliance, and student services.
Kingston came to the Wolfpack from the United States Military Academy, where he served four years as the associate director of athletics for operations before becoming the school’s special assistant to the director of athletics/director of annual giving.
His responsibilities at West Point included supervision of the A-Club, the fund-raising arm of the Army Athletic Association. He also supervised the ticket office and several sports there while leading searches for a men’s basketball and football coach.
Kingston earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida and received his master’s degree from Long Island University. He spent 15 years in the military following his graduation from UCF in 1994.
Kingston and his wife, Stephanie, have four children.
