The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library downtown was a storybook setting July 16 for a midsummer night of fun and frolic. A Literary Bash presented by PNC Bank was hosted by the Library Legacy Foundation. Event chairmen Pat and Jim Appold and honorary chairmen Bob and Kathy Chirdon greeted everyone.
Many staff members and a few guests dressed as literary characters -- Little Red Riding Hood, Peter Pan, and more.

In the cool Wintergarden, guests nibbled tasty edibles from Mancy's Catering as Jesse Coleman and JAMM and Urban Jazz Collective provided background music.
As a thank you, guests perused several shelves of books set up for the night and took their selections home, compliments of the Friends of the Library.
Also part of the entertainment was a raffle for an iPad 2, the exhibit concerning the Main Library's renovations, and souvenir photos of guests.
The evening ended on the rooftop, with a spectacular view of the city on the moonlit night of stargazing.
About $15,000 was netted to support youth services and the book budget.
Among the 300 party-goers were Dick and Melissa Marcus, Kathy and Doug Andrews, Marv and Nancy Robon, Bill and Paula Fall, Ted and Suzi Hahn, and many others.
