Red and green and lights, cut-out cookies, gingerbread houses, nutcrackers, and more add to the traditional scene. Christmas movies and television specials send messages of hope and good will. Generosity has overflowed in donations of toys, food, and clothing. For children and grown-ups, whether naughty or nice, events leading up to Christmas have been plentiful. Santa seemed to be everywhere, and a few elves appeared, too.
The Toledo Sail & Power Squadron annual Christmas bash at the Toledo Yacht Club included dinner, raffle, silent auction, and the handbell choir of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Temperance, Mich. Veterans of World War II and of other wars were asked to stand and be gratefully acknowledged. Handcrafted snowman centerpieces were made by Don Sudek, a sail boater and long-time club member.
The James W. Millon Order of the Elves was founded by Toledo Country Club member the late Jim Millon with Judy Perkins, and Ned Hoffman to provide clothing, food, and gifts to unfortunate children in Toledo and northwest Ohio.
Toledo Ski Club Christmas Party and auction at Brandywine Country Club raised more than $2,100 for Mom’s House of Toledo according to club president, Tricia Fee-Mainhardt. Members and guests shopped the silent auction, were serenaded by the club choir directed by Vivian Sommerfield, enjoyed dinner music by Whitmer students, and dance music by Left of Center band.
