You don’t need to be a baseball fan to enjoy Opening Day at Fifth Third Field, a sign that spring is finally here. It was cold and rainy Thursday as fans and party goers, some who started with breakfast at nearby restaurants, celebrated the first Mud Hens game of the season.
Tailgates were slim with the first of the diehards starting at 10 a.m. Parking lot parties, all with tents, kicked off as early as noon. In the ball park, it was a slow start but eventually the suites level was full of bodies, many of whom had so much fun they didn’t see the first pitch.
While the Hens lost, the crowd under cover in the suites didn’t know the game was over and continued partying
