There's a rock star performing Monday night at the Valentine Theatre in downtown Toledo. Well, not exactly, but when is the last time you shelled out nearly $50 to listen to a writer read his work on stage?
David Sedaris, two-time Grammy nominated humorist and best-selling author, will perform to a close-to-capacity crowd starting at 8 p.m.
According to a Valentine spokesman Wednesday, there are approximately 150 tickets still remaining for the performance. All tickets are $47. Sedaris will stay after the show to sign books.
Sedaris has sold close to 10 million books and is perhaps best known for his autobiographical works that include Holidays on Ice (1997), When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008), Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004), and Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000) which chronicle growing up in Raleigh, his early wayward adult years, and his current life.
The Santaland Diaries, his play about his stint as a Macy's department store elf, is staged around the country every holiday season. His most recent book, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (2010), is a collection of fables, illustrated by Ian Falconer.
Tickets are available at the Valentine box office, 410 Adams St., online at valentinetheatre.com, or by calling 419-242-2787.
