Postage stamp prices rise to 46 cents

U.S. Postal Service rates increased today, with the cost of a first-class stamp going up 1 cent to 46 cents.

The new 46 cent "forever" stamps will allow customers to mail letters to any location in the United States. Forever stamps are good for mailing a one-ounce letter anytime in the future regardless of price changes, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

Other rates also went. The increases were announced in October and raises the rates of everything from a postcard, up 1 cent to 33 cents, to a three-pound Priority Mail package, up 55 cents to $6.60. The cost for letters above one ounce remains at 20 cents for each additional ounce.

Letters to international destinations will rise to $1.10, up from 85 cents to Mexico and Canada and $1.05 elsewhere.

New domestic retail pricing for priority mail flat rate products include $5.80 for a small box, $12.35 for a medium box and $16.85 for a large box. A regular envelope will cost $5.60, a legal envelope runs $5.75 and a padded envelope costs $5.95.
