Cincinnati State rallies to end Owens' season
PIQUA, Ohio — Cincinnati State finished with a 12-5 run to knock off Owens Community College 75-71 in a NJCAA Region XII District I women's basketball championship on Saturday.
The Express (27-5), ranked 11th nationally, turned the ball over six times after gaining a 66-63 lead with 2:33 left.
Aja Hall and Jasmine Blanton each scored 23 points for Owens. Hall had a season-high 17 rebounds and added three steals.
Hall (Fostoria) finishes her freshman season with 472 points, 11th highest single-season total in the Express history. She led the team with a 14.8 average. Blanton, a Notre Dame graduate and sophomore, averaged 13.8 and had 951 career points for second on Owens all-time list.
Karrah Windau (Carey) had 15 point, while Hailey Galvan (Archbold) blocked 10 shots
The Surge, ranked No. 14, was led by Javonna Saddler with 17 points and 10 rebounds and six steals. Brittiney Latimer had 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Shardai Morrison-Fountain had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Kara McLemore added 12 points and eight rebounds. Morrison-Fountain shot 5-for-22 from the field, including 3-for-13 from three point range.
Cincinnati State was 26 of 80 from the field but made 20-32 foul shots. The Express shot 25 of 72 and hit 15 of 23 at the line.
