Owens Community College softball team will compete this week in the NJCAA Division II national championships in Normal, Ill.
It marks the second trip for the Express, which reached the tournament in 2005.
The Express will play Mineral Area (Mo.) College in their first game of the double-elimination tourney at 10 a.m. on Thursday. If it advances, Owens plays at 4 p.m.
“I am extremely proud of our team,”Owens coach Duane Lanham said. “We have worked really hard to get to this point in the season. However, this team is not satisfied with advancing to the national championship tournament. We have as good a chance any other team to win the title.”
The Express (39-3) won the Region XII championship in Battle Creek, Mich., beating Kalamazoo Valley CC 5-2 in
Alaina Haubert, Jordan Ratliff, and Allison Hausch were named to the all-region team. Ratliff was the tournament’s most valuable player.
Owens won its 10th regular-season Ohio Community College Athletic Conference title this season and is ranked No. 8 nationally.
