Temple's only loss this season came in a 14-10 defeat at home to Penn State. The Owls won 38-7 last week in a rout at Maryland. ... The Rockets must win today to avoid matching their worst start to a season since 2008, when they also opened with a 1-4 record. ... Temple junior RB Bernard Pierce leads the nation in scoring with 12 touchdowns. He also leads the MAC and is 10th nationally with an average of 124 rushing yards per game. ... UT junior WR Eric Page is 10 receptions away from becoming the school's all-time leading pass catcher. Michigan coach Brady Hoke recruited both of Minnesota's two quarterbacks that are expected to play today -- junior MarQueis Gray and freshman Max Shortell. Freshman quarterback Braxton Miller has played in three games as a Buckeye and has completed 15-of-29 passes for 235 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Miller has rushed 30 times for 145 yards. ... Junior running back and kick returner Jordan Hall had 231 all-purpose yards in last week's win over Colorado. Hall had kickoff returns of 90 and 45 yards. ... Senior linebacker Andrew Sweat leads the OSU defense with 24 tackles. Senior defensive end Nathan Williams remains sidelined with a knee injury. ... Michigan State has beaten Youngstown State (28-6), Florida Atlantic (44-0) and Central Michigan (45-7), all at home, and lost at Notre Dame (31-13). ... The Spartans are first in the country in total defense, giving up just 172.2 yards per game, and also in passing defense, allowing only 101 yards via the air each game. ... Michigan State has allowed an average of just 11 points per game, eighth-best in the nation, and the Spartans have intercepted six passes in their four games to date. ... BG is 3-1 for the first time since 2007 and looks to improve to 4-1 for the first time since 2003. ... The Falcons also look to go 3-0 on the road for the first time since 2002. ... West Virginia ranks third among FBS schools in passing offense, rolling up 382.8 yards per game. QB Geno Smith has thrown for 1,471 yards and nine TDs with just three interceptions in four games. ... Another player to watch for WVU is junior RB Tavon Austin, who ranks among the national leaders in receiving yards per game (105.75), punt return yards per game (22.0) and all-purpose yards (228.25). ... Both teams have struggled with turnovers as West Virginia has seven turnovers in four games while BG has 11. ... This could be considered a "trap" game of sorts, since West Virginia is coming off a loss to nationally ranked LSU and opens Big East play next week against Connnecticut. s Chip Robinson, Cameron Truss and Anthon Samuel will travel with the team.
