University of Toledo quarterback Terrance Owens agreed to a non-financial contract with the San Diego Padres but will return to school to finish his football career.
The Padres drafted Owens, who hasn't played baseball since his freshman year of high school, in the 40th round of last month's Major League Baseball draft. He will not be compensated but the deal ensures Owens, a junior who is projected to start for the Rockets this season, a spot with the organization down the road.
