A Toledo man charged with causing the death of another Toledo man by striking him with a van and dragging him several feet pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.
Geoffrey Dupuis, 47, of 3335 West Laskey Rd., appeared in a wheelchair in court, where he was appointed a lawyer. He faces life in prison if convicted of murder in the June 11 death of Randall York, 55, of West Toledo.
Authorities said Mr. York was hit by the vehicle after trying to stop the suspect and his son from fleeing the parking lot of the Speedway gas station at Secor and Laskey roads. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s family, including his two sons, was in the courtroom to see Mr. Dupuis arraigned but left without comment.
Judge Gary Cook ordered Mr. Dupuis held in lieu of $150,000 bond and set a July 20 court date.
