Aug. 13 trial date set in manslaughter case

A trial date of Aug. 13 was set Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the manslaughter case against a former North Toledo carryout employee accused of fatally shooting a robber.

Bandar Abu-Karsh, 38, was charged after Lamar Allen, 25, was shot at the Express Carryout on Mulberry Street Nov. 21.

Joseph Hunter, 26, of Toledo, Allen's accomplice in the robbery, was sentenced March 27 to 32 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated robbery, attempted murder, involuntary manslaughter, and felonious assault, each with gun specifications.

If convicted of voluntary manslaughter, the former clerk could be sentenced to up to 11 years in prison.
