Toledoan, 16, certified as adult in sex-attack case

BLADE STAFF

A 16-year-old Toledoan recently certified to stand trial as an adult was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Wednesday on felony charges stemming from a sexual assault last month.

Anthony Mitchell, 16, is charged with two counts of rape and one count each of aggravated robbery and of aggravated burglary, each with gun specifications.

Judge Connie Zemmelman ruled to certify the teen as an adult Aug. 10 after a hearing in which the female victim, 23, and the investigating detective testified. If convicted, he faces up to 47 years in prison.

Also charged is Kenneth Moore, 19, of 801 Magnolia St., who faces identical charges. He has an Aug. 27 trial date set before Common Pleas Court Judge Linda Jennings. The pair are accused of going to the victim's South Toledo apartment July 16 claiming to be selling candles. She reported she was forced to strip and perform oral sex and was threatened with guns before her attackers fled with property.
