Ex-Pemberville man sentenced in fatal crash
BOWLING GREEN -- A former Pemberville man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 days in jail for causing a traffic accident that left a Pemberville woman dead.
Bowling Green Municipal Court Judge Mark Reddin also suspended the driver's license of Evan Bassett, 19, for one year, ordered him to pay a $750 fine, and placed him on probation for five years.
Mr. Bassett, who now lists an address in Mauldin, S.C., was westbound on State Rt. 105 west of Webster Road on Nov. 29 when he went left of center and struck an eastbound car driven by Marlene Wiegman, 72. She was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
"This wasn't intentional. There was no alcohol, no drugs, nothing involved in that nature," City Prosecutor Matt Reger said.
