Bond set for man in possible kidnap

NAPOLEON — Bond was set at $300,000 Tuesday for an Archbold, Ohio, man who Napoleon police said possibly took a Defiance woman against her will from a Napoleon residence, authorities said. The woman was found safe.

Gilberto Villarreal Jr., 27, was arraigned by video in Napoleon Municipal Court on one charge of aggravated burglary.

Judge Amy Rosebrook ordered him held in lieu of the bond at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio near Stryker pending a preliminary hearing Thursday.

He was arrested about midnight in Paulding County on a traffic stop, on a warrant for the aggravated burglary, Napoleon police said.

Natalie Rose McCoy, 24, of Defiance, believed to have been taken against her will, was with him when Paulding County sheriff’s officials stopped the vehicle, and was with relatives late Tuesday, police said.

Napoleon police Monday were looking for Ms. McCoy after a man police identified as Mr. Villarreal entered a residence where Ms. McCoy was reportedly inside.

Police responded just after noon Monday to a report of a gunshot at 56 Sunnydale Lane in the Valley Brook Estates mobile home park in Napoleon.

The resident told officers an unknown male entered his home through a window and assaulted a female inside.

The resident told police he tried to help, but the man had a shotgun.

Police said the gun was fired as the homeowner wrestled with the man.

The man regained control of the gun, and the homeowner escaped through a window, police said. No injuries were reported.

Authorities searched the residence and no one was found inside. Police have said it is possible Ms. McCoy was taken against her will. Napoleon Police Chief Bob Weitzel was unavailable to provide details of the investigation.
