Bond set at $1 million for man accused of murdering ex-girlfriend

A young man charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend Sunday night was ordered to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million.

Traquawn Gibson, 18, of 2027 Elm St., is charged with one count of murder for allegedly shooting CreJonnia Bell, 19, four times at a home on West Weber Street in North Toledo.

Mr. Gibson, who also shot himself -- either intentionally or by accident -- was on crutches in court.

After the arraignment, Miss Bell's mother, Markeda Holcomb-Brownlee, stormed out of the courtroom, saying that the defendant killed her daughter.

As she left the courthouse and crossed the street to her vehicle, she shouted, "I can never get another CreJonnia. Never get another."

Mrs. Holcomb-Brownlee said her daughter had recently broken up with Mr. Gibson, which upset him. She believes the shooting was motivated by the couple's split.
