Felon who carried gun draws 6-year sentence


A Toledo man was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Toledo on Wednesday to six years in prison after being found guilty in August of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Goldy Thompson, 35, was found guilty by a jury after a two-day trial. He was convicted of threatening someone in a Cherry Street bar with a 40-calliber handgun on Oct. 2, 2011.

Thompson had served time in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a bystander at a motorcycle club. He was sentenced to five years in prison in October, 1997.

In 2008, he was acquitted by a jury of three counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of three men in an Ohio Street home. His brother Stoney Thompson was convicted of the crimes and is serving three consecutive life sentences.
