Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates handed down the sentences for Matthew Managhan, 34, of 3417 Anderson Pkwy., and Chad D. Brown, 35, of 839 Walbridge Ave.

Both men previously pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter in the commission of felonious assault with a gun specification stemming from the Nov. 19 death of Joseph Lengel, Jr., 57, owner of CrossFit Intensity Gym. They could have received up to 25 years in prison.

Mr. Lengel, who was not the intended target of the hold-up, was walking into the gym on Warehouse Road that morning when three men robbed and shot him to death.

Managhan and Brown told the court they planned the robbery, which they said was intended to target a different victim who they believed was carrying drugs and money. All that was taken from Mr. Lengel was an iPad.

Two of the three men charged with carrying out the robbery – Devonte Harris, 19, and Jason Kuhns, 31 – also have entered guilty pleas, while Deitrekk Boone, 19, remains at large.

Managhan had his incarceration period extended by 10 months for unrelated drug charges.
