3 suspects arraigned in separate shootings

Man accused of firing at crowd sought

Two men and a teenager accused in separate shootings remained in custody Monday night after court appearances.

Gregory Burgess, 23, of Los Angeles, was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond at arraignment Monday in Toledo Municipal Court, where he is charged with one count of felonious assault for allegedly shooting a bouncer at a downtown Toledo nightclub early Sunday.

Mr. Burgess is accused of shooting Miguel Garcia, 22, in an ankle after getting out of a vehicle and shooting into a rowdy crowd in front of Club Ellyzees, 319 N. Superior St., about 3:40 a.m.

According to court records, an off-duty Toledo police officer working at the club witnessed the shooting.

The suspect dropped a .40-caliber gun while fleeing police but was arrested a short time later, authorities said.

Also arraigned Monday was Anthony Tardiff, 23, of 305 Willard St., for whom bond was set at $500,000 for two counts of felonious assault in connection with a shooting at 1218 Halstead St. in which Charles Jackson, 34, and Darnell Buck, 38, were wounded.

Police said the suspect and another man were visiting two women at the Halstead address when the victims came home at 5 a.m. Sunday and told them to leave, then forced them out of the house.

A short time later, numerous shots were fired into the house, hitting Mr. Jackson five times and Mr. Buck once, the report states.

Both victims were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where information about their conditions was not available.

A 15-year-old boy who appeared Monday in Lucas County Juvenile Court was ordered held in detention for allegedly shooting another teen Saturday night at Cherry and Bancroft streets.

Deshawn Woods of Toledo is charged with one count of felonious assault with a gun specification and is scheduled back in court June 20.

Wounded in that shooting was Kevion Jones, 16, of Toledo. He was shot in the right shoulder and his abdomen, police reported. His condition was not available.

Lori Olender, who oversees the juvenile division of the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office, said she will gather more information about the shooting before she decides whether to seek adult certification for Deshawn.

Police on Monday sought another man they say shot at his ex-girlfriend as she stood in a crowd at Dorr and Hoag streets Thursday evening. Rasean Barringer, 21, of 1663 Woodland Ave., is charged with one count of discharge of a firearm.

Court records say Mr. Barringer opened fire from a rear passenger window of a vehicle as it passed the crowd that included the ex, Shanikquna Jones, and about 30 others. No injuries were reported.

Police ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts call the Crime Stoppers program at 419-255-1111.
