Charges won’t be brought in fatal shooting

A Lucas County grand jury Wednesday declined to bring criminal charges against two security officers involved in the fatal shooting of a Toledo man in the parking lot of a South Toledo bar.

Charles Snyder and Jenson Reichley will not be charged in the death of Marvin Smith, Jr., 24, who was shot Aug. 4 outside the Clam Diggers and Lighthouse Banquet Hall, 2605 Broadway.

Police said at the time that the shooting appeared to be self-defense. Police said Smith had been escorted out of the club after he and his friends got into an argument with another group.

Smith allegedly went to his vehicle, got a gun, and shot the unarmed security guard who had escorted him out of the club. Police said Smith then fired into a large crowd and turned his gun on the two armed security guards, who returned fire.
