"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."
Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.
HE'S BAAAAAAAACK: You know how you can tell that Eminem's back? Blowhards like Bill O'Reilly are getting their noses bent out of shape over Em's spoofs, this time of Sarah Palin, among others. His video for "We Made You" takes some rather unflattering shots at the Alaska governor, Jessica Simpson, Amy Winehouse and others. Funny how this works: Eminem has a new disc ready for release and he's creating controversy. I'd like to say we've missed him, but we haven't. (RL)
Happy-Go-Lucky, is a Mike Leigh film about an impossibly happy woman, Poppy, whose goofy good cheer and impish naughtiness endears her to some and infuriates others. The second, Rachel Getting Married, is a Jonathan Demme downer about a recovering drug addict with emotional scars, Kym, whose erractic behavior threatens to ruin her sister's wedding. Both films provide refreshing and interesting commentaries about the human condition, and are blessed with superb acting by their female leads: Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins as Poppy, and Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway as Kym. WHAT A PRO: (We say, sarcastically). So Britney Spears stormed off the stage in Vancouver for mysterious reasons that may have had something to do with too much cigarette smoke. Since her tour has this whole "Circus" theme, maybe someone should tell her about the old adage, "the show must go on." (RL)
PIANO MAN, GONE: The folks at American Idolbooted Scott MacIntyre off the reality show Wednesday night, saying goodbye the visually-challenged piano player who was by all accounts a real nice guy. Of course, you know what they say about nice guys. (RL)
BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO: Word on the streets in Hollywood is that Lindsay Lohan and her romantic partner Samantha Ronson have broken up after one of the weirder courtships we've seen. Irreconcilable differences? Probably. That and reports that Ronson might get a restraining order against Lohan. There's even some juicy Twitter action. (RL)
GET BACK, BEATLES: The Beatles entire catalog is in store for a digital facelift and overall sonic overhaul. This is a good thing, and ought to breathe a bit of life into the moribund CD industry. (RL)
pleaded not guilty. Next up: Another court date on April 29 for a preliminary hearing. Apparently Rihanna has said she'll testify against Brown. (RL)
