Benefit will be for Chris Root who has battling with this disease for five years to help with medical expenses. October is Lupus Awareness Month. •Toledo Lucas County Public Library will honor city jazz great Art Tatum from 7-11 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Main Library, 325 Michigan St. The event will feature pianist/vocalist Johnny O'Neal, who portrayed Art Tatum in the Hollywood film Ray. •34th annual Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants, will be Nov. 14 in the Defiance Community Auditorium. The pageant committee is seeking female contestants between the ages of 17 and 24, who are single, never been married or pregnant, and live, work or go to school in Ohio. The areas of competition are talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening wear. There are no entry fees. The program is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, and each contestant will be asked to obtain sponsors to contribute a combined $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
