FREMONT The first 10 of 250 union workers at TRW Automotive s factory near Fremont are expected to be laid off Oct. 31 as the auto supplier begins the process of shutting down the brake-components
plant next year.
The bulk of the Sandusky County factory s workers represented
by the United Steelworkers will be idled in July, when automakers undergo model changeovers and TRW begins moving the equipment to other plants, a TRW spokesman said.
Fifty to 60 hourly workers will remain at the plant until it is shuttered, the spokesman said.
The auto parts firm announced in April it planned to close the plant and consolidate its operations in its plants in North and South America.
