Nearly 1,800 Lucas County small business, those with fewer than 10 employees, have been contacted in the past year as part of a program to help them grow.
Jason Wiencek, liaison for a small business initiative group of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, said the program plans to contact at least 200 more firms by year s end. So far, seven small firms have received a total of $25,000 to pay 14 new workers to be trained.
The program, launched in February, will have a workshop on Nov. 2 geared to small businesses.
