Michigan insurance firm to expand headquarters

LANSING — Buoyed by a year of record profits, a Michigan insurance company said Tuesday it is planning a $100 million expansion that could lead to more than 1,000 jobs at its headquarters.

Lansing-based Jackson National Life Insurance Co. said it is running out of space after adding more than 150 employees to its 2,100-member Lansing work force in 2012. Since the insurer’s headquarters was built in 2000, its work force has doubled.

Jackson President and CEO Michael Wells said the firm expanded in Lansing because of its nearby universities and larger metropolitan areas and because it has called mid-Michigan home for 52 years.
