For those who can't make it to church on Sundays, TV preachers offer a vital service. For those who prefer the secular side, the morning news talk shows give a valuable service, too. On a recent Fox News Sunday, former news anchor Brit Hume introduced a new element to the weekend talk-show paradigm - Jesus. Out of the blue, the Fox senior political analyst advised Tiger Woods to give up one religion and embrace another if he wanted to recover his pre-sex scandal popularity.
"He's said to be a Buddhist," Mr. Hume said. "I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption offered by the Christian faith. So my message to Tiger would be, 'Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.'•"
Plenty of Washington sex scandals involve Christians - and no Buddhists. The Christians may not have committed adultery with as many paramours as Tiger Woods, but Jesus condemned looking at even one woman with a lustful heart.
Mr. Hume should stick to political commentary and leave the hypocrisy to the professionals.
