The head coaches of today’s Super Bowl teams, for the first time, are brothers. Locally as noteworthy, Jim and John Harbaugh were born in Toledo.
Jim Harbaugh, the coach of the San Francisco 49ers, was a standout quarterback at the University of Michigan and in the National Football League. His older brother, John, who coaches the Baltimore Ravens, played defensive back at Miami of Ohio.
Their father, Jack Harbaugh, is a 1961 Bowling Green State University graduate who lettered in football and baseball. One of the teams he played on won a national championship for smaller-division football schools in 1959.
His wife, Jackie, also graduated from BGSU.
The Harbaughs aren’t as high-profile about their local ties as others who have become global celebrities. Still, Toledoans will take the attention.
