A good dog brings joy to a family. Lockenhaus’ Rumor Has It V Kenlyn brought magic to Madison Square Garden and pride to northwest Ohio: She won the top prize at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Rumor was born in 2011 and spent her second six months with co-breeder Pamela McElheney, of Springfield Township. But while Ms. McElheney is one of Rumor’s five co-owners, and the dog jumped up to kiss her old friend when they saw each other in New York, Kent Boyles, of Wisconsin, is Rumor’s handler.
By the end of 2015, Rumor had won 100 best-in-show titles. That was also the year she first won best in breed at Westminster. In 2016, at what Ms. McElheney said at the time was to be “her retiring show,” she did it again and added the herding group title. This year, Rumor came out of retirement, won best in breed, won best in group, and finally attained the big prize — best in show.
A dog who grew up in part in Lucas County has now defeated canines from 48 other states and 16 other countries to do what only one other German shepherd has done in 141 years.
That’s something to celebrate, and celebrate Rumor has. She ate steak from a silver tray at Broadway’s famous Sardi’s restaurant. She got petted by Whoopi Goldberg on The View, which was where a Westminster spokesman told viewers, “The judge actually said it was magical watching her go around the ring.”
