The Genoa Area Local School District has recently hopped on board with several other area schools in offering a program to keep students occupied on long bus routes so they're not tempted to misbehave. Four district bus drivers volunteered to participate in the "Books on Bus" program, so about 80 donated books were placed on their buses for any child to pick up and read while traveling to or from school, Transportation Director Mike Weis said.
Mr. Weis said the program may expand to other buses, depending on how well it does for the remainder of the school year.
Lake Local Schools have been participating in the program for several months.Districts that have had the program in place longer - including Springfield Local Schools, which has had the program for three years, and Rossford Exempted Village Schools, in its fourth year - report good results.
