Toledo schools, union expect fact-finder report

A fact-finder report is expected early next week on a new contract between Toledo Public Schools and the Toledo Federation of Teachers and each will have 14 days to take action on the recommendations.

The union has scheduled meetings next Saturday to vote on the matter. If the membership rejects the report, union President Francine Lawrence intends to ask for an authorization to strike.

Superintendent John Foley said a special board meeting likely would be scheduled to take action on the report. The next regularly scheduled meeting is May 27.

The fact-finder met with both sides Monday. The two groups have been negotiating since March 17. The existing contract, agreed to in 2004, expired March 31 after three extensions.
