The Toledo Board of Education Tuesday night approved a controversial land exchange with the city of Toledo by a 5-0 vote.
The action means a new Longfellow Elementary will be built on land in the city's Bowman Park. In return, the city will take ownership of the existing school property at 4112 Jackman Rd.
Opponents of the plan believe moving Longfellow out of the neighborhood would have a negative effect on the neighborhood, including property values.
In other action, the school board thanked its top 10 parent volunteers and community partners for their service to the school district.
